Description
This is a non-canon Star Trek vessel from the TOS era. The registry code is also non-canon and non-standard. I used the EX ending (instead of the NX prefix on the USS Excelsior which was later changed to NCC) to denote that this vessel would be a single vessel line, essentially an experimental vessel in service. I also reasoned I could use a story to explain the registry (7808), which is: the registry was also an experiment to classify the ships by registry. When it became apparent this would not work (partially due to the reuse of registries on different vessels) Starfleet simply left this registry as is. This was originally to be the 7xxx series to honor the Earth Mercury space capsule series with the number 7 (such as the Friendship 7) and it was to be a class of the 7xxx series able to obtain warp 8 speeds. 7800 was the original design, 7801 was a revised design, 7802 was a test spaceframe, 7803 was a test of trying to fit a warp 8 drive system in such a small hull, and 7804 - 7807 were all damaged due to unknown stresses during attempted use of the three nacelle system (the intent was to reduces stress on the nacelle struts but it seemed to have the opposite effect) and later used for other vessels. 7808 was made to work but Starfleet engineers finally decided it would be too time-consuming and too costly to continue the project. Star Trek is owned by Paramount.
