Description

The American Bullfrog (Lithobates catesbeianus, L. catesbeiana, or Rana catesbeiana) is a large true frog - the largest in North America. While bullfrogs are native to eastern North America, they have also been introduced to many other habitats, where they become invasive. This is one of the most popular frogs eaten for food. This bullfrog is a male. The circular area just behind the eye is noticeably larger than the eye itself. That feature is the typanus - the bullfrog's eardrum. A female's tympanus would be about the same size as the eye. He was particularly vocal, being heard throughout the park.
